Saturday Sewing Camps for Kids

Kids' Saturday Sewing Camps

Saturday Sewing Camps are structured and priced the same as the Summer Camps. These are provided as a way for summer camp students to continue the momentum they built up over the summer. These camps are open enrollment, with students free to attend any combination of dates.  Saturday camps are perfect for coming just enough days to work on a favorite project, or for a weekly sewing fix.

Special Note for New Students:  We strongly recommend purchasing a minimum of 2 camps for new students, to give them an opportunity to enjoy the results of their intensive work in the first session.   It covers safety practices as well as basic concepts for operating and handling a sewing machine. When you've finished your first three Saturday Camps, you're free to explore the fun of sewing stuff – You can begin choosing your sewing projects!

Who's Eligible:  New Students ages 6-18 (ages 10+ benefit the most from this brief course; younger students may need additional sessions)

: Camps are from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM most
Saturdays of every month (except for occasional holiday weekends).  Be sure to sign up early in the week! Empty classes are subject to cancellation or assignment to other groups.

Cost:  $57 for each Saturday Camp class.

Supplies:  Supplies and fabrics for sewing projects are not included in the class fees. If you wish to bring them from home or do your own shopping, a printable SUPPLIES LIST is available HERE. It includes the required sewing tools as well as all the materials for the three starter projects for new students.   If you'd rather have us take care of everything for you, we can have them all kitted up and waiting for you when you arrive for your class.  You can purchase them when you register or at class time.

Saturday Fashion Camps: Design Your Own Dresses!

Design Your Own Dresses! Saturday Fashion Camps
Dressmaking for girls up to size 12.
An ongoing series of 1-day camps (3 hours each) are part of our new program to teach fashion enthusiasts how to combine technical skills and creativity.  Learn the basic creative skills for turning a fashion idea into a finished garment.  Students will practice basic technical and creative skills, including patternmaking, for turning their ideas into dresses and clothes they can wear.

Here’s what students will learn:

  1. Make a pattern that fits just you. First, make a fitting muslin; then draft your new pattern from your muslin sample.
  2. Make a design plan. Choose the design details for your dress, such as overall style lines, sleeve style, neckline, skirt. Then add extras such as pockets, trims or other decorations.
  3. Make a technical drawing of your dress design; then draft the pattern for your new dress and its details!
  4. Choose and shop for your fabrics
  5. Sew your dress! You will be free to work at home with help from an adult, using the sewing order guide;
or bring your pattern to sewing class

This class uses a textbook: The Building Block Dress: A Sewing pattern Alteration Guide by Liesl Gibson. It includes a set of pattern templates in toddler sizes up to girls’ size 12.
